NEW Guidance on Voluntary Storage of Privately-Owned Firearms

CNO Washington released NAVADMIN 263/14 the message Outlines new DoD policy on “voluntarily relinquish a privately-owned firearm” for mental health purposes in an attempt to reduce suicides and harm to others. This program is voluntary but is there precedence to believe it could lead to mandatory relinquishing of firearms?

Last week when the Chiefs results come out, in the commotion of congratulating all the people I know who made it, an IT3's said to me "What is the big deal, they just went up one pay grade, why should I care?".   He had a point it is only a small pay boost.  Why should a junior sailor care?   The NEW Advancement NAVADMIN 114/14 was released a couple weeks back and all I hear are negative things;

“This sucks now it will be harder for ME to advance!”

Tips for Navy high year tenure (Things you may not know)

What is high year tenure?  First direct from the instruction;

 “ High Year Tenure (HYT) program  is a vital and effective force shaping tool to properly size and shape the active and Reserve Navy.”  “HYT Is a total force policy which establishes standardized length-of-service gates by pay grade balanced with a waiver process that allows Navy to retain the right Sailor.”  “The standardized HYT gates are established to allow Sailors the greatest flexibility to stay Navy in a stabilized force.”

In other words if you don’t make rate in the allotted time in the HYT policy then they will kick you out to make room for others.  So make rate and you will be fine but what if you can’t make rate?  This list is going to be stuff you may be able to do to stay in PAST your HYT and a few tips to make rate.

Are You Ready For a Sucky Deployment

Deployments can either be a blast or completely SUCK.   There are many things that factor into the equation of a bad or good deployment, how long it is, what ship you are on, your chain of command, what the Navy needs of your ship, and the crew  are all things you CAN’T change.

Have you ever wondered is Navy Knowledge Online really ONLINE?   Here is a cool little website you can tell you if you are the only one not able to get to NKO or if it is a bigger problem;

Not only will this site tell you if the site is up but it will give you a graph of when it has been down and how long.   So use this the next time you can’t get to NKO or if you just want to know if it is working.
